Qualifying Work Experience

Are you an aspiring solicitor?

Arun & Chichester Citizens Advice can offer Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) which is valid towards the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE route).

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) commissioned a new qualification pathway to address concerns around diversity, equality and access to suitable candidates in the legal profession. They noted obstacles such as (though not limited to) the development of soft skills, university access, significant financial obstacles and access to work experience. The SQE Route now provides a common assessment pathway, and a journey which allows aspiring solicitors to develop the key skills and competences needed for their future careers.

This new route has created an exciting opportunity for Arun & Chichester Citizens Advice who are now in the position to support your journey. Advice work completed within the organisation can now be counted towards the QWE requirement meaning your time spent with us will help you on your road to qualification!

What does this mean for you?

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • get hands on experience engaging with clients;
  • have a positive impact on the community; and
  • get your work signed off by a qualified solicitor

 Joining as a volunteer may even lead to paid opportunities within the organisation!

What if you are already pursuing the Legal Practice Course (LPC) Route to qualification?

The changes will gradually become the primary route to qualification however some candidates may have already started on the LPC Route. We would still encourage you to get in touch to find out more about our roles. Working or volunteering with us could reduce your Training Contract or other period of recognised training. Please note the training provider has entire discretion whether to recognise a trainee’s relevant prior experience.
